Was Christopher Columbus a Sephardic Jew? The results of your DNA tests
Lecture by researcher and architect Francesc Albardaner
On Tuesday, December 17th at 7:00 pm, ATID, the Masorti Jewish Community of Barcelona, invites you to attend an enlightening lecture exploring the origins of Christopher Columbus. Titled “Was Christopher Columbus a Sephardic Jew? The Results of His DNA Analyses,” this presentation by researcher and architect Francesc Albardaner will reveal recent genetic discoveries that may shed light on this enduring historical mystery.
Francesc Albardaner i Llorens is a leading figure in Columbian studies and genealogy. He has served as a member and former president of the Board of Directors of the Centre d'Estudis Colombins in Barcelona. Additionally, he is a member of the Catalan Institute of Genealogy and Heraldry (ICGenHer) and the Catalan Society of Historical Studies at the Institut d'Estudis Catalans (SCEH). Albardaner’s research has focused on investigating Columbus’s possible Sephardic Jewish heritage, a theory that has intrigued scholars and historians for centuries.
In this lecture, Albardaner will discuss the results of DNA analyses conducted on Columbus’s possible descendants, examining how these genetic findings might support the hypothesis that Columbus was a Sephardic Jew who converted to Christianity—especially relevant within the context of the 15th-century persecutions and expulsions of Jews from the Iberian Peninsula.
Location: ATID, Masorti Jewish Community of Barcelona
Date: Tuesday, December 17
Time: 7:00 pm
The lecture will be conducted in Catalan.
