Travel Chronicle of Marta Forteza Rey
Hello Atid! I participated in a trip organized annually by the Federation of Jewish Communities of Spain. I was not the only member of Atid who participated, Amos was also there. This year we each traveled on our own to Madrid and from there I arrived at the Amura hotel in Alcobendas, which is a town attached to Madrid.
At 12:00 we all left (60-70 people) on a coach to Segovia, where a city councilor was waiting for us to welcome us and thank us "because we had come back". We took a tour of the call guided by official guides and stopped to eat a picnic.
Suddenly we started to feel colder and it started to rain. The mountains were floured and told us where we would find our coach. So we went back to the Amura hotel to have a Shabbat dinner. We had two rooms at our disposal: one for the 7 tables where they ate and the other to pray and meet to talk and get to know each other.
In the room where they ate there was a section for the catering staff who prepared kaixer food, which was delicious. I stayed at the hotel during Shabbat. But there were other options.
On Sunday we took the bus to Toledo with our picnic bag. It was sunny and we were walking towards the Call by the Pont de Sant Martí. The first stop was at the museum of Santa Maria la Blanca, the old synagogue. The second was at the museum of the Synagogue del Tránsito founded by Semuel ha-LevíAbulafia. The official guides were quite knowledgeable about Judaism and very sensitive to us. At the museums we met Israelis.
The president of the federation joined the group and traveled with us on the coach until we reached Alcalà de Henares. There they received us in the meeting room of the City Council and two councilors thanked us "for coming back" while the music of a duet was playing; bass and violin We walked around the center until we got to the bus that took us to the hotel. In an hour I showered and dressed for the gala dinner and farewell. The next day we each returned home.
To finish, I want to add that the organization and personal care of those who traveled was fabulous.
