Tikkún Leil Shavuot 5783

Last Friday May 26 after Kabbalah Shabbat we met at ATID at a study session in honor of Shavuot. On the second night of Shavuot we decided to delight ourselves not only with cheese and spinach pies, trays with variety of cheeses, cheese cakes, pasta and cheese salads, pastries cheese and of course a lot of coffee, but we enjoyed four presentations prepared by members of our community.

The first presentation consisted of a comparison between the mythical “Imagine” by John Lennon and our “Aleinu”. We compare the different versions of Aleinu, as well as the different translations/interpretations of it, but the discussion It took so long that we decided to dedicate a whole day, at least to the text. The second The presentation dealt with the different interpretations of the "Revelation" according to the Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch, Rabbi Mordecai Kaplan, Rosenzweig and Martin Buber, and Rabbi Joschua Heschel. It was very interesting to compare the different interpretations and how study group members discovered insights that they shared The third presentation consisted of an emotional biographical narrative of the father of one of our partners who served as a starting point to detail the escape routes created by the Dutch-Paris resistance in France and CS6 in Amsterdam. Not only was it very emotional for all of us to hear his narration, but also gave rise to other members of the study session to explain the experiences of their parents. The last presentation invited us to reflect on the Jewish ethical responsibility in the care and preservation of the environment, which ended with the future creation of a stable working group that will deal with build together a more sustainable synagogue.

It was a very fruitful night and early morning, which gave us food for thought, invited us to create new projects and to study more and more. We hope to see you all again “on the mountain” next year so we can continue learning together.
