Atid will become the first European community registered in the EcoJudaism Audit

Atid has become the first Jewish community in Europe to certify its commitment to improving its sustainability credentials by registering for an Environmental Audit with EcoJudaism, a UK-based organisation.

At the recent Masorti Europe Conference, EcoJudaism leaders publicly acknowledged Atid's first steps, reinforcing Atid's position as a leader in the Masorti movement and in the international Jewish movement toward sustainability.

The EcoJudaism organization promotes the conservation, protection and improvement of the environment in Jewish communities in accordance with the principles of the Jewish faith. EcoJudaism evaluates communities with an Audit to measure their progress, and evaluation to measure their environmental credentials.

At Atid, the Environmental Audit is an activity of Atid Sostenible, an initiative that has been active since October 2023. Its working group currently includes Alexander Rodríguez-Murillo, Paul Gans, Noah Fulton Beale, Jan Alsina and Mercé De Tone.

The group's mission is to improve Atid's environmental credentials, according to the criteria of the EcoJudaism framework.

The group's goal is to ensure that the community functions in an ecologically sustainable manner, aligned with the Jewish value of Tikkun Olam, and is recognized as a leader in ecological sustainability among world Jewish communities. The group's work is a commitment that Atid recognizes and lives by the Jewish ethical responsibility to protect and repair the natural world.

Since its founding, the group has implemented an environmental policy with the support of the board of directors and the rabbinate; supported the inclusion of environmental issues in services, events, youth programming and communication; and initiated an assessment of the community's carbon footprint and material use, with the goal of making tangible improvements.

The Atid Sostenible group has monitored these activities, along with existing practices in the community for sustainability. According to their latest evaluation, Atid is very close to qualifying for the Bronze award with EcoJudaism, and they are currently in the process of submitting the results to EcoJudaism for final verification.

The members of Atid Sostenible look forward to updating the community on the status of the award and welcome all interested members to participate in this interesting initiative by contacting the group leader, Alexander, or another member.
