Parashat Vayetzei
Génesis 28:10-32:3
We would like everyone to treat us correctly. However, it does not always turn out this way. We can feel cheated. But does that give us the right to cheat in response to a deception?
In our parsha of the week, Jacob spends 20 miserable years working for Laban, the cheat. This evil man tried every trick to deceive Jacob, seeking to snatch everything that belonged to him legitimately. However, we not only learn that Jacob never tried to cheat Laban in response, but that he was extremely honest with every little detail of his work.
We learn from Yaakov the importance of acting correctly, for his own sake, just because it is the right thing to do.
